Here is Adobe integrated runtime or AIR which is all set to give competition in the platform independent application market which as of now is dominated by Sun Java. This cross platform application environment was earlier codenamed Apollo and is a lot inspired from Flash. Using it developers will be able to create tools which work across Mac, Windows and Linux.

It's a free download and applications developed for AIR can be interchanged between OS and hardware since it offers common runtime environment irrespective of the host operating system. It seems very much similar to Java and emphasizes on internet enabled applications. Click here to download AIR for free.
