Await mind blowing experience with Blu-ray, says James Gosling
Filed in archive Application Development on March 7, 2008
When James Gosling speaks then you definitely need to lend your ears to what he says after all he is known as the father of Java. Recently he was seen addressing people at the Sun Tech Day where he talked about Sun and Blu Ray. If you believe the words of Gosling then Blu-ray Profile 2 would certainly be mind blowing. For this you will have to wait for the JavaOne Conference to be held in May. The good thing about Profile 2 is that it offers storage for downloaded content and internet connectivity too.
This must have already sent signal to Sony, Sharp, Pioneer, Panasonic and other players to pull up their socks and come up with something better. Blu ray users will be getting bonus content since Java has become a part of the Blu-ray Disc Java platform. We could see Java applications from movie studios and Blu-ray player manufacturers supporting Java environments so what users can expect at the end of the day is a richer and better interactive experience.
Sun has seen Microsoft cut down the prices of HD DVD in order to make it difficult for it to become developer language choice for HD discs and now it seems Java will certainly gain in the Blu-ray game since most of the developers are extending their support to it. Looks like bright days are certainly ahead for the company.
