Oracle Corporation this week announced that the U.S. Department of Justice has approved its proposed acquisition of Sun Microsystems.
"Oracle announced its bid for Sun in April, after abandoning plans to combine businesses with IBM," writes PC Mag's Chloe Albanesius. "The Oracle-Sun deal will provide Oracle with the Java language, the Solaris operating system, and the UltraSparc enterprise microprocessor line."
"The European Commission has still to rule on the deal, a step that will be required before it can close," writes InformationWeek's Charles Babcock. "That body has indicated it will issue an initial opinion on Sept. 3."
