Dojo Offline Toolkit- Web Applications Can Work Offline Now

dojo offline toolkit.jpg

Now you will be able to work with your web applications offline. In order to make this possible a team of AJAX experts which includes Brad Neuberg and some developers at SitePen are working on a small, cross-platform, generic download, Dojo Offline Toolkit which enables web applications to work offline. It is based on the successful Dojo Toolkit. It will be an open source library bringing true, offline access to web applications and Brad Neuberg said 'users will be able to access their Web applications and work with their data even if no network connection is available, just like desktop applications.'

It could be applied to consumer websites and corporate portals and CRM systems. The toolkit would be fully open source and available under the similar licenses as Dojo. For this toolkit, a simple, small web proxy would be deployed running locally. Also Proxy Auto Configuration (PAC) is being used with the toolkit which is a standard technology.

With this toolkit the browser will not get to know whether the user is online or offline as the proxy serves up the user interface either way. One of the major attractions of this toolkit is Dojo Storage which enables web applications to store hundreds of MB of information in the browser with the permission of the user.

Though most of the work has been done with regards to delivering of working prototypes but still a lot of engineering work is required to be done.
