A new API has been released by Google for website developers so that they can add search tools to their websites and build web applications. AJAX tools could be deployed by webmasters for adding a search box to sites which display Google video, web, maps, news and blog search results without taking users to a separate page.

The API comprises of GnewsSearch searcher which offers access to google news results and enables users restrict results to specific news sources. Webmasters can also create search based applications and a number of examples have been provided by Google which includes a custom phone list, tools for the purpose of displaying search results as Blogger blogs or TypePad and an application which embeds rich video search control on the website.
