This can be labeled as a golden handshake. History has got something to cherish as Intel and Sun have entered into an agreement where under a joint effort Intel would be endorsing Solaris OS and Sun would be offering enterprise and telecommunications servers and workstations based on Intel Xeon processors. The deal also gets sweetened as Intel would also be offering engineering support for Solaris.

The deal covers Java, Solaris and NetBeans software besides the Intel Xeon microprocessors and a range of other Intel and Sun enterprise-class technologies. Besides the products stated above the agreement also includes design, engineering and marketing efforts.

We have seen in the past that Intel and Sun didn't share a pleasant relationship where Intel came up with Itanium chip in order to bump off Sun's Sparc platform and Sun counter attacked by pointing out the failures of the chip with all its energy. It seems that all the bitterness between the two companies has been buried and they are looking towards the future with a newly worked out model of mutual understanding and friendship. Let's see how far this relationship goes and time will tell whether these companies have really forgiven each other or not.
