The remaining work is being completed. Java will soon be 100% freed from the clutches of Sun and will become open source. Now only the icing on the cake is left and soon it will be packaged with Linux. The company is even conducting talks with Linux distributors to offer the updated version of OpenJDK. It looks determined to push Java to its open source rival.

Rich Sands, Group manager, Developer Marketing, Sun stated:

We're trying to get Java into places it's never been before

It all started off in November 2006 when Sun took this historical step for open sourcing Java after so many years of dilly dallying. This would definitely pep up the development of Java mainly on the Linux platform which earlier was not able to offer Java in its open source form. Long live Java!!!
