This past week I signed up my blog with the Java.Blogs community and I was amazed by the response. The site is a community of Java related blogs that reminds me of the Digg site. Every blog provides their RSS feed to the site and when an update occurs that new posts appear on the homepage (Digg is not based on RSS feeds though). Those posts that get the most "reads" get promoted to a "Hot Entries" section.
The amount of traffic this site generates is surprising. When I first added my blog I thought it was just another network that might gain me a few more readers over time. What I found instead was a thriving community of intelligent people who have a passion for Java programming and application development overall. Over the based week I've been spending more and more time on the site reading posts and taking part in discussions.
With all the talk about Ruby, PHP, Python, etc... I started to doubt that many people still had a passion for Java. I don't believe that anymore. There are still a lot of people out there using Java and there will be for a long time to come.
