Leopard kicks out latest version of Java
Filed in archive Business by gautam on October 29, 2007
Mac users will surely not love this as the latest OS from Apple won't be running the latest version of Java. To your amazement Leopard has around three hundred new features but can you image it cannot run Java 1.6 even though it works fine with other OS such as Linux and Windows. A number of users have expressed dissatisfaction over this and some of them feel that they might have to make a shift to other OS if Apple doesn't change its stand. There are even claims that Apple has pulled the Java 1.6 beta version which was available for Tiger and the moderators of the support forum of the company have even deleted various threads which talked about users being unable to run Java 1.6 on Leopard. Up till now there seems to be no communication in this respect from Apple's end.

We all know that Apple is known to exercise control over the Mac ecosystem and there is very little which users or Sun can do in this respect. Apple didn't go for Java for its iPhone and we don't expect any change happening on this end too. I was just wondering why Apple wants to lose out on its loyal user base. Why such rigid attitude on its part? Hasn't Apple never heard about co-opetition?
