In the tussle emerging between Google and Sun as a result of Android, Microsoft seems to be having the last laugh and we don't need to guess why. It all started when Microsoft emerged as a winner in the war of browsers in the nineties and later on Sun almost Stole the show from Microsoft when it came up with the Java platform and even though Microsoft struck back with .NET it was not able to topple Java from its position.

Up till now Sun was not having any problems but the Android mobile platform could unsettle Sun since it is being regarded as a fork of the Java ME platform and even though it is very much similar to Java ME it is not in compliance with Java ME or Java SE. This is some good news for Microsoft as Android stands to threaten the position of Java and there is a chance that Java may not figure at the fundamental level. There is always a chance that Android may topple Sun from the mobile platform market where it has been inconsistently implemented across mobile devices and at the end of the day Windows Mobile and Microsoft .NET Compact Framework stands to gain from it since it is a powerful platform for developing Rich Mobile Applications and is consistent too. All this may even impact Java SE since for a long time Sun has been looking forward to unify Java ME and SE. This just makes me wonder how Sun will offset one of the biggest threats posed by Android since Microsoft. I believe the answer to this lies with Sun itself.
thnx richard
