Motorola, Nokia and Sun take different paths for cell phone software future
Filed in archive Application Development on July 6, 2007
Cell phone biggies Nokia, Motorola and Sun Microsystems are traveling on separate paths of cell phone software and their differences of opinion on commercial Java products and how to keep Java open is expected to affect the Java developers' community. When Sun had introduced java mobile FX Nokia and Motorola was in for a surprise and they were also worried regarding the details of open source plan of Sun. Both the companies are a bit concerned and are basing their Java road maps on software drawn from separate pools of open source software.
Everybody seems to be asking Java to open up and offer support to future handsets with rich media capabilities. They are also looking forward to mobile Java support Web 2.0 constructs which leads to creation of services by matching and mixing code from various applications. I was just wondering whether a sense of disillusion is prevailing in the world of cell phone?
