Now Java would be able to interoperate with non-Java environments in a better manner as Sun Microsystems is in the process of making changes to the Java Community Process. A new Java Specification Request titled JSR 306 has been proposed by Sun Microsystems. Now the Java Community Processlinks would be streamlined and the process would be made more transparent, the average duration of JSRs would be further optimized and individuals would be able to participate in the process in a better manner.

Also expect fundamental changes such as non Java implementation of a JSR's specification. Creation of liaison relationships with other standards organizations, availability of a TCK and the migration of pre existing technology would be eased towards an agreed upon standard. Also expect support for hybrid JSRs that would cover technologies in both Java space and non Java space.
