Open Source Java ME Community to Be Built By Motorola
In its continued support to the open source community and Java fragmentation reduction, Motorola is keen to establish an open source community for the Java ME software stack for the mobile industry. For this purpose Motorola is planning to use the open source Apache License Version 2.0. of the Apache Software Foundation.. The unified platform would help in lowering the overall development and testing costs, reduce in time to market and lead to the creation of tremendous opportunities for developers which would help in fulfilling the promise of Write Once, Run Everywhere applications.

This step reaffirms the commitment of Motorola for creating Java specifications and standards through leadership in organizations such as Open Mobile Alliance, JCP and Open Source community. Before this in the year 2003, Motorola emerged as the first manufacturer which combined the scalability and flexibility of Linux and Java technologies through its A760 handset which is regarded as the first Linux+Java handset.

This would certainly help the customers, developers and the industry as a whole.
