Open source to be the focus at JavaOne 2007
Filed in archive conference on May 7, 2007
Come JavaOne conference and Sun CEO Jonathan Schwartz and Rich Green are expected to make major announcements with regards to open source. Even though Java has been through its ups and downs but open source will surely give it the needed push. An update is expected with regards to release of all open source code for Java under the GNU General Public License.
Had Sun done it several years ago it would have ruled the roost. Sun's strategy to be in control back fired and its dream of toppling Microsoft dominant position remained unfulfilled as Microsoft used C# and Common Language Runtime to strengthen its position. This is now more like a damage control exercise which is expected to revive Java. Let's see what this strategy brings for Sun.
