Oracle Schedules December 10 Meeting with European Commission

Oracle has scheduled a hearing with European Commission regulators regarding its planned acquisition of Sun Microsystems for December 10.
"The deal has already been approved by US regulators, leading some US senators to accuse the Commission of deliberately dragging its feet in order to benefit Oracle’s European rivals," notes The Register’s John Oates.
"The European regulators in particular have objected to Oracle’s acquisition of Sun’s MySQL open source database business," writes Eric Savitz at Barron’s. "Last week, the deadline for EU review of the combination was extended to January 27 from January 19 after Oracle requested more time to address objections to the deal."
"Should make for an interesting meeting given Oracle’s refusal to take the EC’s concerns about the future of Sun’s MySQL database seriously," writes CNET’s John Paczkowski. "Certainly, it’s difficult to imagine Oracle caving to the Commission’s demands when it has criticized the group’s findings as a ‘profound misunderstanding’ of the database market and open source…"
