Oracle-Sun Deal Under Increased Scrutiny

Oracle's proposed acquisition of Sun Microsystems is now receiving increased scrunity from both United States and European Union regulators.
"The Redwood City, Calif.-based database giant said in June that although the U.S. Department of Justice had escalated an initial probe into the deal, it didn't expect the deal to be delayed beyond the end of the current fiscal quarter, in August," according to the WSJ's Peppi Kiviniemi and Jessica Hodgson. "But European Union regulators' interest in the deal, alongside that of their U.S. counterparts, means Oracle may struggle to meet this timetable. Legal experts say Oracle may also have to meet conditions, which could include divestitures or mandating terms and conditions of software licensing, as a condition of getting the deal through."
