Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has approved Oracle's takeover of Sun Microsystems, as long as Oracle maintains its commitment to Sun's MySQL database.
"The regulator said Oracle must continue to create new versions of MySQL within the generally accessible licence and should not oblige clients to buy its services if they want to get a commercial licence for MySQL," write Reuters' Maria Kiselyova and Tarmo Virki.
"The authority said it would have grounds to request a cancellation of the deal, which already got unconditional clearance by the EU, if Oracle violates the condition," according to TMCnet. "FAS also said the condition would be valid for four years since completion."
The deal has already been approved by the European Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice.
