Solaris cluster code to become a part of OpenSolaris community
Filed in archive Application Development on June 27, 2007
It was in 2005 when Sun unveiled open-source version of its Solaris 10 and it has been an incremental process. The latest news is that Sun has donated its Solaris clustering code to the open source community. This is a part of the strategy of the company to make all its software available for free which the whole world had been praying for. Open High Availability Cluster which is the Solaris Cluster source code will be released in the next eighteen months through the High Availability Clusters community on the OpenSolaris Web site.
Using it developers will be able to use the code for building clustered and high availability applications and services. The source code will be available under CDDL. As of now there are no plans to offer GPL though rumors are afloat that it might be possible if Sun decides upon offering OpenSolaris under GPLv3. Around two million lines of clustering source code will be made available by the company.
