Sony looks to combine best of Java and Flash in single application
Filed in archive Application Development on May 6, 2008

How about some mobile phone applications with a sense of 'wow'? This is what Sony Ericsson plans to do as it is working towards combining the best of Java and Flash in one application.
Using this technology developers will be able to bring together Java ME and Flash in a single Java application which would let developers overcome the shortcoming attributed to this technology. For example Java has certain APIs which enables developers to access phone functions such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth which you won't find in Flash and in case of Flash you come across certain user interface capability which you won't find in the former therefore this technology aims at utilizing the best of both worlds.
By the second half of 2008 Sony Ericsson plans to come up with APIs in its software development kit which will prove beneficial for the developers. The resulting application would be regarded as a typical Java application within the developer platform of Sony and even across the industry. The technology will be demonstrated at the JavaOne Conference to be held in San Francisco. In the future Sony even has plans of sharing the technology with the community so that it can be used on other phone platforms too.
With competition intensifying among several mobile operating systems and development platforms Sony would surely like to use this as an opportunity to catch the attention of developers. Let's see if it gains success in doing the same!!
