Sun distributes Unified Testing Initiative certificate for Java based handsets
Filed in archive Application Development on May 13, 2007
In order to make Java platform more attractive Sun is distributing Unified Testing Initiative or UTI digital security certificate for java mobile handsets installation. It is expected to enable non UTI member companies to run Java Verified Program or JVP signed applications on their cell phones. With this certification it becomes easier to identify third party access rights with lesser prompts. By July 2007 the company will be releasing Unified Testing Criteria Version 2.2 which is the testing criteria for Java Platform Micro Edition and has been developed by UTI member companies.
The UTI member companies consist of Motorola, LG Electronics, Vodafone, Orange/FranceTelecom, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Sun. A common security certificate is expected to improve security for mobile applications across a range of devices and bring up the levels of end user experience.
