Sun Microsystems has introduced Java Platform Enterprise Edition 6.
"Sun's Java EE is one of the more popular Web and enterprise application development and deployment platforms, and according to the press release, it has been downloaded 18 million times, which puts it right up there with the Paris Hilton video," writes The Inquirer's Ed Berridge. "This version is designed to be a little more flexible and enable companies to develop specific application scenarios."
"One of the more interesting aspects of Java EE 6 to me is the concept of profiles, and the profile that's gotten much of the attention is the Web profile," writes JavaWorld's Josh Fruhlinger. "This is, in short, a more lightweight subset of the Java EE infrastructure good for running Web apps; it's meant to compete with platforms like Spring and even Java-less setups that make running a Web application less gnarly for the developer."
More here from OSNews ... more here from The Register ... more here from Developer.com ... and the press release is here.
