Sun is trying to match changing business needs

Filed in archive Business on September 13, 2007

The manner in which businesses are being conducted today has definitely changed from the time when they were conducted a few decades back when an enemy in business was an enemy and wars were fought pretty much in the open but tough competition seems to have changed the way in which businesses are being conducted today. Sun Microsystems and Microsoft seem to have changed with times and now Sun will be reselling and installing Windows on its x86-based servers. There was a time when these companies used to fight in the open and everybody knew who their enemies were but now a number of companies including Sun and Microsoft are getting together with their one time enemies in order to generate as much business as possible and create as many opportunities which they can lay their hands across.

Jonathan Schwartz, CEO, Sun Microsystems had recently said in an interview:

We can do business with 100% of the marketplace now. That's not something we could have said a few years ago

Besides Microsoft, Sun has also entered into deals with IBM and Intel which clearly states that Sun is changing the manner in which it is conducting its businesses. Companies feel that these alliances will help them in focusing on clients looking forward to benefit from virtualization technology but on the other hand one could end up losing customers to other companies offering cheaper alternatives. Only time will tell whether companies will be able to gain as a result of these alliances or not but one thing is for sure time has certainly changed the manner in which businesses are being conducted today's world.
