Sun Microsystems has announced plans to cut 3,000 jobs in the coming year.

"The job losses -- about 10 percent of the global workforce -- are the latest in a series of cuts by the struggling company, which reached the $7.4 billion deal with Oracle in April," writes Times Online's Mike Harvey. "Sun said in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission that the layoffs would come from all its major regions, including North America, Europe, Asia and emerging markets."

"The latest cuts are in addition to a reduction of 5,000 to 6,000 employees announced last November," notes SFGate's Ryan Kim.
