Sun reaches out to schools in Philippines with Java

Filed in archive Programming on September 30, 2007

Sun is making smart moves to spread Java world over and especially developing countries where it knows it can create an impact since most of these countries have emerged as an outsourcing hub. If we go by the statistics then India, China and Philippines occupy the top three positions in terms of the number of Java programmers. After opening up a couple of learning centers in India Sun is promoting a project in Philippines which offers free training for teachers in Java. Dubbed as Java Education and Development Initiative or JEDI, it is aimed at educating teachers for developing software applications based on Java. The program is aimed at teaching Java to teachers so that they can impart it to their students. The training program has received the backing of University of Philippines. Up till now jedi has been implemented in around eight countries namely Brazil, France, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan. This program also features in the IT curriculum of a number of schools too.

Here Sun is acting with sharp business acumen feeding Java to the roots so that it can reap its benefits in the future when these plants grow up. It's good that the company is focusing on developing countries too since its here it will get the maximum benefits in the years to come.
