Sun tells Apple it must get Java on iPhones

Filed in archive Mobile Devices by gautam on September 28, 2007

Why didn't you guys get Java on iPhone? This is probably what an engineer of Sun asked Apple but in a different manner.

This is what Bob Brewin, Sun Distingushied Engineer and vice president for software had to say:

I think it's a mistake. I think it would provide a lot more flexibility in applications being developed.

Sun feels that two million phones have already got Java so why not Apple iPhone which is selling like hot cakes. He felt that Apple had some kind of disliking for open systems and it wanted developers to stick only to small set of APIs.

On the other hand Steve Jobs has been indifferent about getting Java on iPhone and up till now there has been no comment from Apple's side on this statement. It is being felt that JavaFX has the ability to power rich applications on the phone but whose gonna convince Jobs who is already on a high with the success of Apple iPhone.
