Sun Web Stack: The AMP Open Source Web Package

Sun Web Stack which was earlier named as Cool Stack has been unveiled. It can be regarded as the twist to open source LAMP stack. What you get at the end of the day is software required for deploying websites and web applications.

Also known as AMP (Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl) it will be available for Solaris, Windows, Linux and other OS. It was more of a developer offering until now but now it can be termed as a fully supported enterprise offering. Part of Sun Web Stack is PHP 5.2.5, Apache Memcached 1.25, Apache 2.2.8, MySQL 5.1, lighttpd 1.4.18, Perl 5.8.8, Ruby 1.8.6, Rails 1.2.3, and Squid Proxy 2.16.x. It also comprises of database and scripting languages and web and proxy servers.

The company will be offering product control for the supported stack across several operating environments so that applications can be used across other operating systems with little changes.
