The Long Tail Brings Us Hak.5

BlogPicture

The I first time I had The Long Tail explained to me I thought it was total BS created by some academic type to generate public speaking engagements. However, after some thought and observation I see that this phrase has some merit. I'm slow sometimes but I try and make up for this shortcoming with persistence.

This brings me to the IPTV show called Hak.5 which I think is one of the most entertaining TV shows, in general, that I have seen in a long time. This show is produced on a monthly basis by a group 5 of individuals with what seems like very little funding. However, the quality and the content of the program are IMHO exceptional.

The show mixes tutorials on computer security, programming, and "mods." So in a nutshell is is a show developed by nerds for other nerds. Even though that is the case a good amount of humor is involved to help keep it light. The episodes are distributed over bittorrent by individuals who download the episodes and then seed the show themselves so others can get it. Since that is the only way people can download it the general public probably will not be lining up to watch it anytime soon. However, if this show is a sign of the quality and diversity of IPTV programming to come we all have something to look forward to. A better delivery mechanism can't be that far off.

Check out Hak.5.
