Three Good Mashup Sites

BlogPicture

I'm very interested in the new trend happening with Web Services. I've been digging around to find more information about this stuff and I found the following three sites:

  • Web API Tracker is a blog that tracks recent events
  • The second is a Wiki called WSFinder.com. This is a community effort to create a list of all APIs and web services that are publicly available for people to play with.
  • The last site I will mention is Programmableweb. ProgrammableWeb is a web-as-platform reference site and blog delivering news, information and resources for developing applications using the Web 2.0 APIs.

All of these sites have blogs that are updated regularly. I'm a fan of all three now and I think I will be for a long time. I don't know how far the use of these "Web APIs" will go but I'm enjoying what I see so far. There has to be a line that will be crossed some day. Some provider of data will at some point find the information they are providing is being used in a way they did not intend and they will try and stop that use. Only time will tell I guess and things are moving pretty fast.

Mashups are a great way to leverage content from multiple sources. I use the eBay and Commission Junction API’s to power a shopping site and I’m excited to be featured as the Mashup of the day on ProgrammableWeb.com! Nov. 17 2009.
