Use AJAX Offline
We all know that AJAX has refined the world of web applications. One of the problems always encountered is that web applications require an internet connection all the time. Embeddable database such as Apache Derby enables you to overcome this problem and run your AJAX applications when offline. One can embed Apache Derby in a browser which is not visible to the users and safely store application data using standards based APIs. As Derby has been written in Java, one gets portable storage across a number of browsers and platforms.

At the AJAXWorld session, David Van Couvering would be demonstrating an offline AJAX application by using embedded Derby and its implementation and how one could build the applications by self.
