We will get Java on Apple iPhone, says Sun
Filed in archive Application Development on March 13, 2008
Just a month back Steve Jobs had raised fingers on Java which surely might have left Sun seething with anger but it seems that the company remained unperturbed by its comments.
These were the comments which Steve Jobs made in Feb, 2007 in case you cannot recall it:
Java's not worth building in. Nobody uses Java anymore. It's this big heavyweight ball and chain
Now Sun Microsystems is planning to come up with Java Virtual Machine or JVM version for iPhone even though Apple is sneering at this idea.
Eric Klein, VP, Java marketing, Sun stated:
We're going to make sure that the JVM offers the Java applications as much access to the native functionality of the iPhone as possible. Once our JVM is on the phone, we anticipate that a large number of Java applications would run on the phone.
This free JVM would be made available through App Store marketplace for third-party applications. Seems like Apple won't be able to run away from Java for long!!
