ProgrammableWeb has a nice addition to their site. They recently published a Web 2.0 Mashup Matrix that displays the a listing of all the major Web API providers and how they intersect.

I'm seeing an encouraging thing with this new matrix. It looks as though developers are doing more then just google maps mashups. For a while there all I was seeing was developers using Google maps and some other information to create a GIS system of some kind.

The reason I don't appreciate that type of thing as much as many others is that I've seen it so often before. In the wireless telecommunications industry using GIS systems of some kind was very common. Companies like MapInfo and ESRI have been doing this type of thing for years. Google maps is amazing and I don't want to take anything away from it and the people working with it. However, the available Web APIs out in the wild now are extensive and there is a lot of potential to create some very interesting applications.
