Have you tried Java 2D API? It is used for drawing 2D graphics in Java along with extension of Sun AWT capabilities and as a result existing programs can surely work. It offers an ideal platform for creation of enterprise scale Java applications and applets using rich media for improving communication. One can do a lot of things with Java 2D API such as custom color mixing, high quality printing, color model manipulation and a lot more. My friend Peter Mikhalenko has extensively explained the features, drawing shapes, graphic class and paint styles in his post. Check it out!!
