Ajax and pageviews? They probably don't like each other and this can be witnessed by the fact when you implement it in your websites and go on to experience a sharp slump in your pageviews which is regarded as a critical factor in judging how popular a website is. A number of websites have been implementing Ajax to improve the functioning and look of their websites but at the end of the day they had to compromise with the pageview figures which act as an important marketing tool.

It happened with Yahoo and something like this is expected to take place with Facebook too which is a popular social networking website. In order to improve upon its user interface Facebook has implemented Ajax in its photo galleries therefore its pageviews would surely take a hit since it enables updates without loading the complete page. We will have to wait for the figures of December to get a clearer picture on the issue of pageviews of Facebook but in the future we may see pageviews getting replaced with time spent by a visitor on the website and this could surely give a true measure of the popularity of a website.
