Yahoo Maps has moved away from Flex 1.5 based maps applications and adopted Ajax for building Yahoo Maps. If you look at Flex 1.5 then its quite difficult to develop it and great amount of time is required in its development and as a result Yahoo was having trouble maintaining the Flex 1.5 version of Yahoo Maps and when Flex 2.0 moved in developers were enticed because of better opportunity and a s result Yahoo was having a pretty tough time. Market sentiments swayed in favor of Flex 2.0 and at the end of the day Yahoo Maps team had to face the brunt.

On the other hand we can see that the major players in the map arena such as Mapquest, Google, National Geographic and ESRI have been improving upon their mapping applications with Flash Player. Its ideal for maps since it can work with image data in memory. Yahoo Maps has certainly done a good job with Ajax in terms of performance and compatibility and I would like to say that maps using ActionScript 3 and Flash Player 9 would surely do quite well in the future. All the best Yahoo!!
