Jelastic, using the next generation platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offering, has made it possible to build and run any any Java application in the cloud instead of from a personal computer, which speeds up development time while maximizing computing resources. Jelastic enables developers to make necessary Java code changes and rebuild their Java applications in the cloud itself, removing the lag time caused whenever files are updated and uploaded from a personal computer. Jelastic can take the application source code directly from version control repositories, via either the Git or SVN protocol. This is quite handy for Java developers, as they can easily swap, test and production environments with just a point and a click. Java is the programming language of choice for millions.

The new version of Oracle's NetBeans IDE will include the next generation Java programming language, Java 7. NetBeans 7 is the first open source IDE to support the new Java, although JetBrains does offer a beta of its IntelliJ IDE that supports the draft specification. NetBeans has also strengthened ties with other popular software development tools like Git, and it offers greater integration with other Oracle products like the Oracle database and WebLogic application server.

Oracle has another Jave IDE, called Jdeveloper, which it has directed toward the enterprise sector, while maintaining NetBeans as a tool for the larger community of Java developers, whether or not they use other Oracle software. With NetBeans 7 developers will get the chance to test out the new version of Java, which introduces a lot of new constructs specifically aimed at making the language more concise and providing a better developer experience.

Security holes in Java applet code are being exploited by online criminals, who are using these to distribute computer malware. Java malware has been on the rise since 2010, and it is being used to exploit Windows systems at an increasing rate.

To protect yourself, it's recommended that you do not disable automatic Java updates and always load all patches that are issued for Java. There has also been an increase in clickjacking, which is malware that tricks users into raising the rankings of infected sites on search engines and social networks. For example, the Trojan.JS.Clickjack.A generates Facebook "Likes" on primed sites, without the user noticing. This type of malware will continue to be an issue for social networks and search engines in this year. Trojan.Wimad.Gen.1 is the most serious malware threat at the moment. It is an audio file that is mainly distributed via P2P networks.

The release of Coverity Integrity Control has been made by Coverity Incorporated, leader in software integrity programming. This is the latest in program code governance, enabling software development organisations to set policies for code security and quality, also go onto handle, oversee and revert on these protocols when the code is examined.

Utilizing this, firms can spontaneously handle and implement standard code program checking protocols over in-house development groups, development groups that have been outsourced, and softwares supplied by 3rd party providers, gathering in-depth knowledge in development risk over the supply chains of softwares.

eXo started as an open source project, making an open source jsp development portlet container. It's first customer was the US Department of Defense in 2003, and other customers include Generali, Orange and Societe Generale. The original open source project was eventually merged with Jboss Gateln in 2009, and remains a component of the eXo Platform. The company now offers an open source Java framework for enterprise social software tools.

This includes reusable components for building content management systems, user management tools, activity streams, e-mail integrations, mashups, and more. This week the company announced a new Web-based development environment for cloud applications called Cloud IDE. This new offering is seen as a way of keeping enterprise Java alive by simplifying the development process and providing easy access to the latest tools.

Apple has shipped a Java security update for both Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard, alongside the release of it's iOS 4.3. The update patches 27 bugs, including one through which hackers could hijack your Mac by running an attack code.

This patch should therefore be considered a critical download, even though not all versions of Mac OS X are equally vulnerable. The patch plugs 16 vulnerabilities in Java SE6 and 11 in Java SE 5 for Leopard, while the update for Snow Leopard addresses 16 bugs in Java SE 6. Apple has committed to supporting Java in Leopard and Snow Leopard, but has warned developers not to rely on it and has instead announced that it will contribute to Oracle's competing OpenJDK project. So it follows that Apple is unlikely to continue developing Java for Mac OS X Lion.

Potix Corporation is the provider of Java Web JSP development solutions based on the open source ZK Web framework. They have just released a set of jQuery-style selectors within ZK that are designed to give developers an easy method of selecting and accessing server-side components. ZK is an open source Ajax framework that is written in Java. The company calls it an "Ajax-plus-mobile framework", because of its support for Java Mobile, as well as Android and other mobile browsers.

The framework compiles with JSP, JSF, Portlet and Java EE technologies, and it is also easy to integrate with Java IDEs. ZK apps can be built using pure Java, markup languages and/or scripting languages. ZK aims to speed up the creation, deployment, and maintenance of rich Internet apps. Web app development with ZK becomes as intuitive as programming desktop applications.
